Flight School at Republic Airport — Farmingdale, NY
Academy of Aviation's Farmingdale campus is the school's flagship location, based at
Republic Airport (KFRG) in Farmingdale, New York. Republic Airport is the third
busiest general aviation airport in New York State.
From your very first
lesson, you
are on a live ATC frequency, sharing the pattern with professional pilots and
corporate traffic. That environment builds communication skills and situational
awareness that quiet training fields simply cannot replicate.
Pilot Training Inside New York Class B Airspace
Republic Airport sits beneath the New York Class B airspace structure, with JFK,
LaGuardia, and Newark all within the surrounding corridor. Student pilots at KFRG
train in one of the most demanding ATC environments in the country — the same
complexity that airlines look for when evaluating instrument candidates.
Long
Island's climate also delivers consistent year-round flying, with milder winters
than upstate New York and more flyable days per year.
FAA Part 141 Career Pilot Program
Students at the Farmingdale campus train under FAA Part 141 — the structured, curriculum-based standard recognized by airline hiring departments. The career program covers the full path: Private Pilot Certificate, Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot Certificate, and Certified Flight Instructor ratings including CFI, CFII, and MEI.
The Fleet
The Farmingdale fleet is built around Cessna aircraft equipped with modern glass cockpit avionics. Primary and instrument training is conducted in the Cessna 172 Skyhawk with Garmin G1000. The Cessna 152 is used for early primary training and solo practice.
Redbird Full-Motion Flight Simulator
The Farmingdale campus has a Redbird full-motion flight simulator on site. Simulator
hours count toward your instrument rating under FAA Part 141, accelerating progress
and reducing cost during one of the most demanding phases of
training.
Students use
the Redbird for IFR approach practice, emergency procedure drills, and pre-checkride
preparation.
Airline Partnerships — Delta Propel and Republic Airways RJet

The Farmingdale campus participates in two of the
most significant airline cadet
pipelines in the country. The Delta Propel program offers a conditional flow offer
to Endeavor Air — a Delta Connection carrier — for students who complete their CFI
ratings and instruct at AOA, with a clear path to Delta Air Lines.
The
Republic
Airways RJet Cadet Program connects students directly to one of the largest regional
operators in the country, serving American Airlines, United Airlines®, and Delta Air
Lines.

Frequently Asked Questions — Farmingdale Campus
What airports will I fly out of during training at KFRG?
Republic Airport (KFRG) is your primary training airport. Cross-country training takes you to airports across Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and the Northeast. You will work extensively within the New York Class B airspace environment, including coordination with controllers at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark approach. This real-world complexity is one of the most valuable aspects of training at the Farmingdale campus.
Is the Farmingdale campus FAA Part 141 approved?
Yes. Academy of Aviation holds an FAA Part 141 Air Agency Certificate. Part 141 is the structured, curriculum-based training standard required by most airline hiring programs. Training under Part 141 also allows you to test for your commercial certificate with fewer hours than the Part 61 minimum.
Does the Farmingdale campus participate in the Delta Propel program?
Yes. Students who complete their flight instructor ratings and instruct at AOA are eligible to enter the Delta Propel pathway, which leads to a conditional flow offer to Endeavor Air and a clear route to Delta Air Lines.
Is GI Bill® funding available at the Farmingdale campus?
Yes. The Farmingdale campus is approved for GI Bill® funding for eligible veterans
and
service members. Contact our admissions team to verify your eligibility and

How far is Republic Airport from New York City?
Republic Airport (KFRG) is approximately 35 miles east of Midtown Manhattan, accessible by car or the Long Island Rail Road to Farmingdale Station. Students who want access to the New York metro area while avoiding Manhattan costs find Long Island a practical base during training.
